DETAILED SYNOPSIS

The Century of Tree Magic is the long-awaited era when ancient wisdom and light return to the land and unique gifts begin to manifest in young forest creatures. Join Blaze, a rambunctious wolf pup, and Lili, a small but mighty owlet, on a wooded adventure full of mystery and magic as they learn timeless truths about themselves and the world through nature.
Blaze has fluffy blue and white fur and a tree branch that extends from the back of his neck. It’s called a branchler because it looks like an antler. He is sprawled under a rainbow-colored tree, napping, without a care in the world.

Suddenly, Blaze is awakened by a soft squawking noise. He perks up his ears and searches for the source of the sound. As he looks up into the tree, he spies Lili, a baby owl with feathers the color of a sunset. A glowing green emerald sits just above her big eyes. She is terrified of the seemingly hungry wolf but cannot fly away as her wings are not yet strong enough.
Blaze introduces himself and reassures her he is a friend. He also tells her about his special gift– he’s part wolf, part tree! Branches sprout from his joints which connect him to the power of the natural world. When he asks Lili about her shiny green stone, she explains that it guides her way and helps her see at night. Though both of them have special powers, they are still discovering the full scope of what they can do with them.

As new friends, they set off together to find a snack with Lili riding on Blaze’s branchler. Lili’s emerald guides them to some berry bushes where Blaze immediately starts chomping down on the berries. But Lili insists they offer gratitude to the earth before they eat and leads them in a song. Then they dig in.
Lili is so delighted with her snack that her feathers change colors to show her emotions. Blaze is amazed at her gifts. The duo breaks out into singing and dancing, overjoyed at the blessing of their newfound friendship.

But Blaze’s dance moves get a little out of control and he accidentally hits Lili with his branches. She begins to cry but realizes she is actually crying about something else, not the accident. Finally she shares her secret with Blaze– she misses her mommy, who is off exploring. It remains a mystery with whom she is exploring and where. To soothe herself, she asks Blaze to do some deep breathing with her. He agrees and breathes with her until she calms down. Little do they know, someone has been listening. Suddenly they hear a mysterious voice coming from the trees telling them to pay attention to their surroundings and seek the wisdom of their elders. They search the area but cannot find the speaker. Once they recover from their shock, Blaze explains that the elders gather in Unity Field for the lunar new year celebration each year. That is where they will find them.

With new intention, the youngsters set off toward Unity Field. Blaze uses his wolfish sense of smell, and Lili shouts out directions from her glowing emerald as she rides atop Blaze’s branchler. They sing a traveling song, and the hopeful friends are eager to hear what the elders have to say. As explored in the second book of the series, the search for Lili’s mommy sparks an initiatory quest where they discover the essence of who they are and their complementary roles as friends.
